Introduction
As a leading SEO company in Lagos, Nigeria, we have identified fail-proof SEO strategies that power our results.
Our growth in the past three months has been a result of implementing the strategies you will learn in this article.
They are the same strategies we use to deliver results for our clients around the world.
In case you would like us to help you with your SEO strategies needs, you will find more details on that at the end of the article.
Before then, let’s get started.
1. Use of Keywords
Keyword Research
The first thing you must understand about SEO strategies is that you want to be found for specific words/terminologies in your industry. What are those keywords that your brand wants to be known for?
For example, as a Lagos-based SEO company, we rank for keywords such as; SEO, on-page SEO, off-page SEO, SEO marketing Lagos, SEO experts in Lagos, Lead Generation, and many more.
What would your ideal user/customer type be if they are looking for the solution you offer? That is what matters.
If your content is not optimized with the right keywords, you can as well forget about being found by the right audience. Check out what other people are doing in your industry.
Write out 10 keywords you want to be known for, and optimize your content accordingly.
After you must have gotten the correct keyword(s), how do you optimize? That brings us to the next point.
Keyword Density
Your keyword(s) must be strategically placed in your content, to facilitate crawling by the bots.
Your SEO ranking is based on the quality of the content as when it was crawled.
Here are three reasons why your content may not appear on Google.
Place your keyword(s) in your URL, content title, and meta description, and distribute them across the piece of content.
N.B: Don’t stuff keywords that become redundant and affect the user experience.
Keep it simple and strategic.
2. Link Building
To make your site easy to navigate, both for bots and users, you would have to use links to other pages of the website.
The more difficult it is to navigate your website, the higher your bounce rate which hurts your SEO effort.
Link building also involves having other websites link to yours in a way that positions you as an authority on the subject or one with relevant information.
Here are the two strategies we use for link building:
Backlinks
These are links that take their audience ‘back’ to your content for further study.
Internal links
Internal link building involves the use of inbound links. Inbound links direct to relevant content on your website that further explains your point.
Internal link building combines both strategies to include links to relevant information to improve the reader’s understanding.
N.B: Link building MUST consider the relevance of content and domain authority to be effective. Here are some factors we use to develop SEO-winning content.
3. Content Strategy
As a company, we run two major in-house blogs. Our content strategy is not about technical jargon. These are the four things that must be in place when creating content for our blogs:
Relevance
- What problem does the content solve?
- How important is the problem we are trying to solve?
- What are other people saying about it?
- What are people not saying?
These are the questions you must answer before you proceed with any content.
Research
After you must have verified the relevance of the content, the next step is to conduct proper research.
The relevance of content, sometimes, is determined by the relevance of its source, in terms of supporting content and reference.
- What are the top brands in your industry saying about the topic?
- What is the latest report on the subject?
Keep sourcing for materials to position yourself as an authority on the subject, ease your reader’s understanding and help drive your point home.
After gathering relevant materials, you must know how to put them together. See how we do it below.
Readability
- Don’t make your content unnecessarily wordy.
- Avoid using technical jargon.
- Make your readers feel carried along as they go through your content.
- Properly outline your content with subheadings to ease navigation.
- Avoid long paragraphs, instead break them into smaller paragraphs.
- Close your content with some form of summary or call-to-action to remind your reader of the purpose of the content.
- Avoid clogging your content with images.
All of these help to improve one thing, and this determines how people react to your content and website in general. What is it?
User Experience
This is described as how the average user feels when going through your content or website.
- Do they feel like you are not addressing their needs?
- Is your content a bit complicated to understand?
- Could it be that your content is too wordy or difficult to grasp at a glance?
- Does your content feel redundant?
These are things you should have in mind during content creation. If the user experience is poor, the bounce rate of your website won’t be.
Set your priorities right. Focus on relevance, research, and the points outlined in readability. Remember that you are writing to solve the problem of your reader.
Don’t add to it. After optimizing your website/content for improved user experience, it still isn’t a guarantee that you will rank high on search engines.
There is one more crucial thing that makes the difference:
Consistency
After you must have understood the strategies above, the next step is to apply them as often as possible. As a company, our content strategy involves uploading content thrice weekly.
That’s how our schedule works, and the effectiveness is clear. Workaround your schedule and develop a content plan for your website.
You must understand that the algorithm favors consistency. The more the bot crawls your website and finds relevant content for related keywords, the higher your chances are to rank high for that keyword.
As you improve your consistency, you set your content on the path of high ranking on search engine result pages.
